Metal braces vs clear braces

Metal braces are the traditional, metal coloured braces. Clear braces are made from clear plastic, making them more discrete and less noticeable than metal braces.

The process

1. Initial consultation

An initial consultation is essential before starting your treatment. The consultation will involve discussing your treatment goals with your orthodontist who will then assess your teeth to determine if you are a good candidate for braces. If it is determined that braces are suitable for you, your orthodontist will provide a customized treatment plan that will address your concerns.

2. Fitting appointment

During this appointment your braces will be fitted, this appointment will be longer than any future appointment. It involves preparing the surface of your teeth and cementing the brackets and wire in place.

3. Follow up appointments

Every 6-8 weeks you will return to the practice for a braces-check appointment. At these appointments, your progress will be checked and adjustments may be made

4. Deband appointment

This is when your braces will be removed and your custom retainers will be made.
