The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint that connects your jaw to your skull. These joints allow the movements needed for speaking, eating and facial expression. TMJ disorders can cause facial and jaw pain, jaw clicking and abnormal jaw movements among other symptoms.
If you experience:
- Discomfort or pain in your jaw, especially when eating
- An aching pain in front of your ear which may spread to the face
- A clicking noise when you open your mouth
- An uncomfortable or an uneven bite
It is possible you might have TMJ and should come visit our clinic for an assessment
Following an assessment, we may recommend you try one of our treatments which include nightguards and splints
A TMJ nightguard is a custom mouthguard made from plastic that protects your teeth from grinding and aligns your jaw. This relaxes your face muscles, releases pain and opens airways.
A TMJ splint is made of tough acrylic and placed between your upper and lower jaw to discourage grinding.
