Tooth Colour Fillings

A filling is a treatment for teeth that are damaged by decay, known as cavities. They help restore the tooth back to its normal function and shape while preventing further decay. They are also used to repair cracked or broken teeth and teeth that have been worn down from misuse (such as from nail-biting or tooth grinding).

To treat a cavity our dentists at Albany Creek will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and then “fill” the area on the tooth where the decayed material once lived. This procedure is known as a filling.

What is a tooth coloured filling?

There are different types of materials available for dental fillings, including silver and porcelain. Tooth coloured fillings are made from composite resin and are known as tooth coloured because of its white colour that is used to match the colour of your teeth.

  1. Aesthetically pleasing — the shade/colour of the composite can be closely matched to the colour of your teeth, making it a natural looking solution
  1. Versatile — in addition to its use as a filling material, composite fillings can also be used to repair chipped, cracked or broken teeth.
  1. Requires minimal tooth preparation
  1. Bonds to tooth structure — composite fillings chemically bond to tooth structure, providing further support to the tooth

Getting a filling is normally painless. While you may feel some discomfort, we’ll administer a local anaesthetic which will numb the area. You may experience some discomfort and sensitivity after the procedure, this will go away and can be managed with pain relief medication.
