A filling is a treatment for teeth that are damaged by decay, known as cavities. They help restore the tooth back to its normal function and shape while preventing further decay. They are also used to repair cracked or broken teeth and teeth that have been worn down from misuse (such as from nail-biting or tooth grinding).
To treat a cavity our dentists at Albany Creek will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and then “fill” the area on the tooth where the decayed material once lived. This procedure is known as a filling.
There are different types of materials available for dental fillings, including silver and porcelain. Tooth coloured fillings are made from composite resin and are known as tooth coloured because of its white colour that is used to match the colour of your teeth.
Getting a filling is normally painless. While you may feel some discomfort, we’ll administer a local anaesthetic which will numb the area. You may experience some discomfort and sensitivity after the procedure, this will go away and can be managed with pain relief medication.
