Fluoride treatments are a professional treatment where a dentist will apply a solution, gel, foam or varnish with a high concentration of fluoride to a person’s teeth. This will improve their oral health and reduce the chance of cavities.
Why does my child need regular Fluoride application?
Fluoride is especially helpful if your child is at high risk of developing dental cavities. They are at high risk of developing cavities if they snack often, have deep pits and grooves in their teeth and don’t brush regularly.
Fluoride application is recommended every three, six, or 12 months depending on the oral health of the individual.
By preventing cavities and slowing the growth of bacteria, fluoride treatments may also:
- prevent gum disease
- reduce tooth pain
- prevent premature loss of teeth
- delay or reduce the need for expensive dental work in the future
