Dental anxiety is incredibly common and one of the biggest barriers to dental health. If you are scared to go to the dentist, it is unlikely that you will seek regular dental care and this can have serious ramifications for your oral and overall health and wellbeing.
This is why at Platinum Dental Studio we work hard to make sure that even our most nervous patients feel comfortable in the dental chair. We do this by implementing a range of anxiety management techniques and cater them to every patient’s needs.
Our anxiety management strategies include:
- Behavioural management
Pain free dentistry
For many patients, their anxiety towards the dentist stems from a fear of the pain they may experience. At Platinum Dental Studio we understand the anxiety patients face and believe that dental care should be as pain-free and stress-free as possible. This is why we offer a range of sedation and numbing solutions for our anxious patients. These medical tools help patients relax and ease their anxiety as well as experience significantly less pain.
Happy gas sedation involves breathing in a blend of two gases through a mark which sits over your nose. The gas has a sweet smell and induces relaxation as well as relieves pain and feelings of anxiety. Happy gas is very safe and effective practice, you will remain conscious throughout and the effects are quickly eliminated from the body once the gas is turned off
Fear of needles is incredibly common; at our practice we provide the option of using a numbing gel prior to getting a local anaesthetic injection. The numbing gel is applied to the injection site prior to the injection and will numb your gums so that you won’t be able to feel the needle glide in. If you are phobic about dental pain and needles, using a numbing gel should help you relax and feel more comfortable about facing a needle – as well as remove any pain.
Sedation medication, also known as oral sedation is a form of sedation that is taken in pill form and helps relieve anxiety. The patient will usually remain conscious and can follow instructions from the dentist, but will often be drowsy and won’t remember much about the treatment.
General anaesthesia is a sedation method that needs to be administered in a hospital environment that is fully staffed with an anaesthetist and support nurses. If a patient experiences high levels of anxiety, we may refer them to a hospital or surgery center to receive general anaesthesia. GA is used to heavily sedate patients and make the lose consciousness in a deep sleep. They are woken up once the procedure is complete.
